Operation Chi-Bang: Part 4

Contd from PART 1, PART 2, PART 3

~Flashback 2019~
The frail looking militant stepped forward and looked back @ the burly man, on whose nod he reached out and pulled a slick plastic covered rectangular piece from my pocket. The thick, smooth holographic plastic-like cover did not give away what lay sealed in it. He tried to make sense of what he held in his hand. Slowly, re-treading his steps, he handed it over to his boss, who slid two fingers into the small opening on the side of the cover and pulled out a card, the moment the realized what his eyes were now looking at, he put his uzi down and wasted no time in asking the others to do the same. Like the men-above had told, “Comrade, no rouge will stop u when they see this, but use it wisely”, and their words have come true and not for the first time. I don’t know how and why our C Kompany ID commands such fear.

After para-jumping off the Cessna 172 stolen from the sheik’s private hanger (VRN’s fix when our Plan A din show up) with the last 2 pipelines in our cargo, we landed in middle of the poppy growing - militia inflicted ACHMEDI area under the cover of night for the last phase of our operation. All we needed now is a point to right direction and path which does not put us in cross-hairs of the local army police. Now that our credentials were established and IDs returned, we sat around the freshly cut opium produce of the day and listened carefully to the chief’s instructions on a crumpled hand drawn map.

~FlashForward 2020~
VRN:
VRN was the TRANSPORTER of our operation. Co-ordinating our every move, a skill or rather expertise he honed during his time in the largest airline among the oil nations. And his daily proximity to the sheik’s private airline hanger came in handy during the operation’s crucial last phase. With him positioned at karama, the mission’s ground work had begun, their moves to ‘refresh’ the hesitant oil governments had started to what seemed like a people’s revolution back then, all key ones toppled one after the other making way for the so said ‘DEMOCRATIC’ process. This enabled the men-above to create a perfect diversion while we were carrying out our mission.

~FlashBack 2011~
“When were you let in on this?” I asked bob
“the day u left for CHI” he replied. Lighting another of his UltraLights.
“So this operation, it’s just 2 of us?”
“Nope all the FAB-4” he said. And my Jaw dropped!
“And none of us knew??” I asked pushing my jaw back to its place.
“Yupp. None but one” he said with a hint of suspense.
“Who?”
“The silent one!” He said, with a smile inevitably breaking across his face.
“He knew all along?? Impossible! ”
“Don blv it? Well, picture this, who surprised us with least amount of blabber of what i-m-going-to-do next talks? When we spoke incessantly- he was quiet, When we spoke of job change- he quit and quietly went to the sea, When we spoke on & on abt study & did nothing- he gave his xams and joined college! Quiet, well planned, and purposeful with least amount of fuss, and to think of it he happens to be the only one amongst us who never went to SHOOTFIGHTERS, now, makes any sense et all? He’s the man behind the scene, overseeing that our mission clicks like clockwork. And that's not the best part , I’v come to hear that his real name is not Nandu, that’s just one of his many aliases. Nobody knows his real name- he goes by Nandu, Francis, Ranbir or Chetta depending on who u believe. He’s the SPOC of men-above and our mission’s PUPPETEER

~FlashForward 2019~
The opium lords were kind enuf to provide us with two of their horses and a cart, our transport. After 2 days and 3 nights of cold wind and sand blowing into our body openings we finally reach ACHMED OIL site. Nandu was there waiting for us, as he always was, one step ahead. He helped us unload the pipes and got to work immediately wasting no time. After 5 hrs of assembling, checking and re-checking finally a satisfied Nandu radioed our co-ordinates to karama and VRN confirmed a chopper would pick us up @ 0600 next morning, just before the break of light. As we huddled in a tent that chilly December night, a distant murmur of a Black Hawk that we waited for so long finally came by, Nandu shot a red flare star to assert our position and just like that, after 7 years of running from one corner of the world to another, Project Chi-Bang was finally over.

~Present Day (late 2020)~
With the operation complete, C Kompany had no reason to continue as a front. The company was taken over by a government organization to handle its “IT requirements”, the reason stated for purchase. Just a matter of time before it would slowly cease to exist. As for us the Fab4, we return to our mundane cover, waiting for our next mission, if time comes, if duty calls.

Signing off-

Operation Chi-Bang: Part 3

Contd from PART 1, PART 2

“AC Ducts?? Wtf??”
“Pipelines” he said, like it was supposed to mean something.
“What?” I asked to make sure if I heard him right
“PIPELINE, SHETTY, PIPELINE” he insistently repeated.

Then it struck me. This is what it’s all about. The pipelines. All the talks and jokes abt “Our projects are in Pipeline” which we heard so often in C Kompany when pushed around, asking for work. Which we then laughed and poked fun on, except now, I’m too skeptical to break a smile let alone a laugh.

Bob filled me in on how these innocuous looking AC DUCTS were some kind of secret prototype pipeline set pieces, which, when delivered and assembled at each ones crucial junction will go on to create a golden loop and regulate all the 69 major oil pipelines of the world. This would somehow go forward to secure the world and has been a long awaited move waiting for it’s time in history to be made.

He further went on to explain how these had to be hidden for so long under the front of running a service company, as long as it took these pipes to become part of an urban legend from a most sought after hidden treasure by anti-national outfits to leverage. And that’s what they did, with a deliberate shady outfit as ours, showing random ups n downs, which declared profits in recession and not when market in upswing, employing best minds from automobile to tech to sports to fill empty seats, they pulled off a perfect cover with absolute overdose of randomness.

“Now you must be wondering - if it’s so bloody secretive, why was it hanging out in the open all these yrs” he asked.
“Plain view is the best hiding!” I reply in epiphany.
He nodded in agreement.
“What now?” I asked
“We are the delivery guys, the ones who survived after 4 yrs of screening to carry it out!” he replied
“Meaning?”
“The ones who’d deliver these pipes to all the 69 touch points, under the radar, unarmed. THE SECRET MISSION I wired u about!” he said .

~FlashForward 2020~
Now that the mission is over it all comes together, what purpose we served, why were we doing wha we did.

FAB:

Fab was the operation’s Techie, C Kompany was just her boot camp, was picked of all the techies, not cos she was best of the lot, cos she had more than just the tech stuff, something that can’t be taught, CHARM. The men-above tactfully arranged for her to be placed in SERIOUS company. There she, unknowingly, worked on code which was then being developed for next generation military surveillance and radar, tracking every cross border movement. She wrote codes which were pure poetry in geek world, sound and secure, which boggled even the best minds. A virtual fort. But as they say, nobody knows the weakness of a fort better than its architect.

The next stroke of brilliance from the men-above came when they, like master chess players, planned a very natural transition for her from the smaller firm to the BIG one, and not just any big company, it had to be the BIG BLUE. This obviously not without a reason, BIG BLUE’s command over the world system network is unmatched and that’s exactly what we would need later on. In years to come, with calculated and timely promotions, FAB would be at helm of a particular network division of our interest. Right where the men-above would require her to be when she’d be taken into our fold. And with Fab on board in late 2014 we had “under the radar” part covered.

Operation Chi-Bang: Part 2

Contd from PART 1

~FlashForward 2019~
“How do we move these to achmed’istan Oil ??” I asked a local opium farmer.
He looked at us, the beige jumpsuits we wore, it was a contrast to the blistering ACHMED heat treated arid land, perplexed and by now a bit unsettled, he summoned his gun totting henchmen. 7 of them. Mood of alarm had set in, they pointed semi-automatic Uzi’s at us and spoke rapid achmed’ani dialect. Bob translated it for me between his ciggi puffs, he had learnt the dialect or say quite a few local languages along with lotsa killer Krav Maga moves during his stint as Presaleman, a front obviously. He was this operation’s Translator.

Henchman: !@!@!@ *STARES*
Me: wha’s he saying ?
Bob: He’s asking me to put this ciggi down.
Me: Then why the fuck are u not?
Bob: Cos I don give a fuck bob !
Me: Say we just need directions. And put the fucking ciggi out.
Bob: !@@!!@@
Henchman: !@!@!@ *STARES*
Bob: Says he’ll shoot me if I don’t drop it till he counts to three.
Me: drop it, will u?
Bob: “Ah! fuck it.” He said and put his light out.
Bob to Henchman : “!@!@#@#@#!@##”

One of the frail looking henchman is instructed by, who seemed like, their boss. He slings his uzi to the side on his shoulder, lets it hang there and walks towards me.

Henchman to Bob: “@#$##$*(&*(&*(&”
Me: Wha’s happening?
Bob: “Don move or he’ll blow both to bits. That prick is gonna check ur jumpsuit’s pocket. I asked him to.” he said with a smile in the last sentence, smile, so did I, cos wha lay in our pockets will rattle their spine.

~FlashBack 2011~
“Fab left C Kompany to a SERIOUS one, VRN went back to karama, and Nandu became a sailor, I became a presaleman and you went to CHI" Said bob leading me down from the unlit server room on a spiral stairs, we must have passed 5 floors already I said to myself,
"What’s the connection?” he asked.
“Nothing” I replied.
“C Kompany- Shetty!!! each one of us was moved strategically or made to stay as per one’s level of involvement reqd for the operation” he said with a annoyed expression, which was directed at my cluelessness.
“What Operation?? ‘Level of Involvement’ in what??” I asked.
THIS” he replied and flicked the switch on.

The sudden brightness, of what seemed like a dozen high power flood lights, blinded me for a minute but when my eyes adjusted to the light I saw a room full , tens if not hundreds, of what once were the Overhead AC ducts that had filled the now multicolor renovated Bldg 1 with it's newly acquired asbestos. I looked at it and looked back at bob. Wide eyed and confused.

Subject: RE: GOLD MEDAL??

Gold medal rakhein hain khate...unhe bolein 5 saal complete hone pe secret mission pe bhejenge..wahan jaake puzzle solve kiye toh gold..
Translates to: "Apparenly Gold medals are waiting for us... They said after completing 5 years they'd be sending us on a secret misson.. If we go there and solve the puzzle then GOLD it is.."

~Circa 2020 ~

Now back @ home, looking at this mail which, back then, i so childishly dismissed as just another rant from BOB. This is where it all began March 11 2011, what I forgot to consider back then was that with bob now in Presales he had much more info than what i blvd him to have. In all those unassuming banter we so often had after his so said TRANSFER, I never caught his clues, but now when I look back it all makes sense. C kompany, Bob, my Lucky break, The red satin ribbon around my neck right now and the big gold medal which it’s there to hold-everything makes perfect sense now.

The set pieces as they are:

~ Flashback 2007~

C Kompany:
Set in an unassuming surrounding, it could have very well been mistaken for a gdown than any workplace back then. It brought in a wide assortment of ppl, from dumb to super dumb to the street smart to the smart asses of out generation. None knew why they joined this joint. None knew why they stuck on to it for as long as they did. None know why they still are there and wha’s holding them back from moving. All these doubts were diligently answered with a single lazy conclusion: FATE. But the men upstairs had much more on their minds for how our fate would be decided by the mechanics of their fingertips. It was tough, barbaric, but nevertheless we both made it, and the gold medal stands as a proof to that.

~Flashfoward 2011~

I had just returned from CHI, jetlag and profusely sweating in BANG, thanks to the inhumane cold conditions that my body had taken to there. I called bob and asked him to drop by later that evening at my place, but his reply, the tone and the words he uttered, he said “come to office @ 11:45pm sharp. I’ll wait for u in ccd our usual table, come by walk and keep ur cell in SILENT mode” and he dropped the call. All this brought a strange feeling of doubt and awkwardness in me but I attributed it to my Jet lag.

As instructed I reached ccd a minute early @ 11:44. He was seated @ our table, smoking a Kings ultra milds, we hugged and he straight away put out his ciggi (very unusual of him) and gestured me to follow him. The place looked renovated, colorful and slick, all with asbestos ceilings and bight colored glass panes. For some reason the lights were out, and no guards at the table, Bob lead me with the torch, from wha seemed like a blackberry phone. We went straight to the SERVER ROOM on 2nd floor. Bob paused, looked back at me smiled and swiped his card at the panel outside the server room, all this happened so fast that I had no time to stop him from setting off the admin’s alarm, but to my surprise the door opened with a silent hisss. He walked in and I followed him there, the door shut behind us as we did.

Smiley

Aaaarrrgghh.. Here she comes.. And here comes her dreaded smile.. Tchinnngggg !!!! I Smile back @ her.. I hate this compulsive smiling be it workplace, or back @ school, college... I just plain hate the the people i label as SMILEY's.

Smiley:
By definition is a male / female who you happen to know by whatever means, with whom u don have an iota of interest to talk to nor is there any advances from him /her to do the same. But still just to keep that "I Know You" feel intact everytime u happen to see them they flash a charming smile. Well they atleast try to.

The Flaw:
  • Both for sure know that even if they meet 100yrs down the line only thing they wud end up doin is smile. No "Oh where were u all these yrs", or "How are you" not even a "Hi". Just a divine smile.
  • I tried NOT smiling in a phase by phase manner, a gradual decrease, but i doubt they ever mind or are even noticing. I have gone up to the extent of looking the other way wen i see them coming. But the next time i happen to see them, THERE, the smile is there standing tall against all odds. Phew!

The Levels:

  • Level 1: It's charming. There's hope fro whateve there is ur thinkkin abt.
  • Level 2: all your advances to are met with bigger smiles and quicker feet. He/ She acts like some Ghost in a bolly movie, who just smiles/ Laughs and runs around a PURANI HAVELI just out of ur grabbing distance. So close yet so far.
  • Level 3: Now u start wondering if they are smiling For U, Wtih U, or At U.
  • Level 4: The smile is creepy now. u just are tired of smiling back.
  • Lavel 5: All ur attempts to stop smiling back are futile. If gandhi and his followers had tried smiling @ brits everytime they saw them, i sure think they wud have departed earlier. Chumma satyagraha/ March n all. It's Non-Voilence torture at it's best.
  • Level 6: Now it's just like GROUNDHOG DAY. HE/ SHE smiles, i mirror the same mechanically, and make a mental note "i'v gotta put an end to it".

Bawwwwrrrrdddd

He he . so so jobless I am..

Things that amuse/ entertain / interest me nowadays can vary from a piece of useless paper or "Who wins flip of coin" best of 3 of course, changing my desktop wallpaper, browsing some news site hoping they’l publish something worthy of reading.. I hope you got the picture, right?. I’m so bored of staying putt @ my desk that whenever I’m out of my place ppl jus flash a smile @ me thinkin such a lucky bastard I am.. jus for the record “it’s not all that rosy”.. for a week’s time being jobless is fun but after that it’s as fun as - chewing on a day old Center Fresh which u pulled out from under a college desk in a hour long lecture after a filling lunch in a cockroach ridden place- got the idea??

Introspection becomes the only way u can think. U pass judgments on others, not coz it’s in ur blood or that u hate that person but just coz u simply have nothing better to do than that. U can very well see ur moving one step closer to turn into a Chick for the only reason that U love rumours even if u know it’s fake jus cos the fact that it gives u something to talk abt Gossip gossip all the way.

When I see a TV somewhere in the restaurant or something just the fact that it happens to show The New AXE effect Ad where this female is searching for her cell phone all over the library floor it seems to please me immensely or say that they happen to show something that has Katrina in it ->  same effect (No sweetheart it’s not just me it’s what all guys feel jus the degree varies).

Well that’s it.. I’m bored sittin @ my place now.. gotta go.. byeee

The Urban Warrior

It was the day many dreaded, the day when the strongest kinds ran around with their tails tucked between their legs. But unlike them I was determined, I was prepared. I stepped in to the arena feeling Déjà vu. I saw others who were der before me, lying down, my fellow men, wincing with pain, they had done their duty fearless and leading from the front. But the enemy was cunning, he was skillful and prepared. Although we outnumbered him by far, he somehow clearly had an upper hand on the situation.

I slowly geared up, allowing nothing to deter me from the ultimate face off. It was then I saw the enemy, who stood across the heap where my fellow men lie in a pool of blood. He was unscathed, determined as a morning sun. Wearing his appearance, which was his biggest weapon, lean and fragile, which gave the opposition a thrust in their confidence only to make some horrendous mistake and then finally fall to him. But I told myself that it will not be the case with me, I will bring him down and emerge victorious.

I stood across the arena waiting for the right moment to commence our battle, then at that moment he looked up from his latest kill right into my eyes and invited me with the slightest of nod, I responded with a nod, den v both charged towards each other, both jus keeping our eye contact, not shouting, not showing the slightest of fear or strength, trying to conserve all energy for the battle ahead.

There was still lot of ground our thumping feet needed to cover before we actually could have had a strike. It was den he did the unexpected: he slightly deviated from his path took some giant steps and leapt into the air, holding his weapon which looked like a spear, but smaller, high above his head ready to strike. In a quick reflex I moved away, seeing which he twisted mid-air and kicked me on my chest. I was thrown to the ground. It was a bad fall. I turned around to guard myself against him, but only to realize I was too late to do that. He was already charging down at me like a wild bull, he struck me again with the butt of his weapon, which I still couldn’t quite figure out as to what it really was.

I felt my hand loosen its grip over the weapon I held, he again delivered a severe blow, and quickly jumped on me to capitalize on me when I’m down. He looked down at me with what looked like pity in his eyes; he raised his weapon, which was now shining like a piece of silver, ready to strike. Before he did strike he uttered the words that the legend told he always did: “Don’t Worry it won’t Hurt”. Den I experienced a piercing pain in my arm, I opened my eyes to see him smiling, I smiled back, suddenly a realization made him to stare back at me wiping out the smile from his face. I looked up and told “Dude u missed the spot”. He looked back at wound only to realize that my words were true. He pulled out his weapon from my arm and stuck again, this time right on target. I lay there feeling weak, for it all to get over with. After 10mins he tapped my shoulder, pulled out his weapon, checked the bag in which he collected my blood and looked up and told: “Thank you for donating blood sir, please have the sandwich and juice over the counter. It’s complimentary” :)

A Chance Encounter

I forced myself to office on a Monday morning, only to find it largely deserted and incidently after checkin my mail, searching for some work assigned to me in it, it jus happened to be one of those days which had nothing to offer me in terms of work… Not even UNIT TESTING and/or ANALYSING (not that i enjoy it,, still..)

Frustrated and wondering aloud as to why, why of all places I’m here, this day, this moment serving no purpose at all… they say whatever u do here, each n every action of ur's, all contribute to a larger constituency, a bigger picture is always der to which each and every action of ur's matter. i din see any of that happening this day this moment no matter wha i did…

With no job in hand like any other bored ENGINEER I faithfully logged on to some comic sites, orkut and Blog site.. I used up all my time browsing thru the recent update notices of people who did a range of changes from uploading their new pics in orkut to changing their last names to “Wazzup….!!!” Or “Coooollll” etc..

While I was doin all this outta sheer boredom in my close to empty office on a MONDAY MORNING, fate was looming dangerously close and large over my head… LITERALLY!!! Suddenly a strange feeling struck me, the kind when u know someone’s staring at u from somewhere, It was kinda spooky… I dismissed that feeling blaming it partly on the infamous Monday Blues and partly on myself for bein Paranoid. I continued browsing thru more Orkut albums, but this uncomfortable sense of being observed / being stared started growing inside me.. With suspiction growin out of bounds I finally gave in to it &, with gr8 effort, turned my head to once and for all make sure that I’m not being spied on by a ghost in my empty office, but fate revealed it’s plans for me, the reason why I was der that MONDAY, at that moment, doing what I was doin. Standing behind with a slightly crooked angle with a elegant hunch, staring at my monitor looking at my fnd’s album pic, stood a lean frame which belonged to a guy from our Management, he was not jus any random guy, he was THE MAN, the man with powers, the kind who called THE shots, who run the company. Of all people!!! Huff.. FATE,,, God Dammit!!

Though Orkut was not yet officially blocked in our company, it’s definitely not what we are supposed to be doing at work hours, but work I din have and orkut was what I did, and caught i was, situation Uncomfortable, the kind ur not prepared for… He din flinch a bit, when i turned back and was lookin at him, he continued scanning my monitor, perhaps he din notice, or rather din care. In a moment he shifted his gaze from my monitor right to my eyeballs, with a swift precision that comes only and only with experience. The stare was hypnotic, from which if i din break out soon, wud suck me in, not sure what an ideal reaction wud be between a fake shame or a bold greeting, in split second decision (a rather lame one, I’d say) I greeted him with a bold and confident Chin upHI”, the kinda Chin up action with which u'd mouth “WASSSUP” to ur peers. He held his gaze, hold, hold, 1., 2., 3., 3.5 seconds. Den he broke his stare with which he held me captive, he turned (which reminded me of "Daineeeyyy Muddd"), moved back to his cabin, without a word, without a response or reaction. I wondered what would follow for the rest of the day. Nothing happened, atleast nothing happened that day. Well the next day i just happened observe ORKUT was blocked, so was Blogspot….

Hmmmm ,, wonder why…

Moments ago...

For the nth time appu peeped in to my computer screen curious as to what keeps me so quiet and engaged in front of my system throughout the day, unable to hold it any longer she finally broke her silence-
Appu : Kya karte rehta hai tu poore din system pe?

One Night @ ...

As i took de stairs of bus our office had arranged to ferry us to the venue of our "HALF YEARLY" event, i was far for anything remotely bein termed as "excited". Memories of last event rushed back, and my spirit still down. I recounted the events lined up and tried to relate to dem

-Opening Speech : Some dude blabbering on n on abt C Kompany.
-Fashion Show : No hopes. No offense meant but seriously, How good wud it be?
-MC RJ Prithvi from Radio One :Whoever- Whatever.
-Drinks and Music : Only Beer served - Which I don drink.
Music - i Barely dance
-DJ SASH at the Turntables : Whoever- Whatever
-Dinner : This one's of my interest.Hope it's good...

Sigh! I asked myself "Why am i goin to this place?, only for food?, is it worth.".
Pat came the reply from de Profound ME "What else do i have to do???"

Took a seat with VRN. Appu n deepo seated in front. BOB n FAB (he he.. it rhymes!) behind."Strange feel hota hain" said Appu. "Huh kya?" i asked. She went on to expln how we used to talk nonstop and now we barely meet or have anythin to speak of. I agree totally. Meeting in person has a lot to do when it comes to friends who are girls. i never see this prob with guys. We may be happily living different lives, without any kinda communication - phone, sms, chat, email, meetings- yet a booze session can get our bondin back in no time. We reached our Venue- Hotel Chancery Pavillion. We were asked to get down in middle of the road right in front of the hotel. Some comparisons were drawn betn the BUS , C Kompany and us getting down in middle of the road. Everyone agreed in Unision. We were guided to the foundations of the structure which was a named as GRAND BALLROOM.

With a Fruit Punch in hand i stepped in. "aaahhhh!! well decorated, Nice setup" ran my first thoughts, and suprisingly it turned out to be one of the best parties i've attended till date. Host RJ Prithvi kept the crowd in laughs and had them engaged in Fill in the blanks, Pricezz of C kompany, Plum Bun Lines, S-Hip Sale activities. Meanwhile the Fashion show was a treat. Well done. Well executed. Kudos Guys. Den came DRINKS (Beer only) and MUSIC. Blv me Beer never felt so good on my throat. We danced like it's our last chance to do so (for reasons unknown many blvd it in fact was their last dance for C Kompany), heavily perspiring until either our breath or legs gave away. To top it all came a good dinner and very good dessert. All in all i'd like to quote myself
"Rocking party, Rocking music, Rocking Food" i said to Urv.
" and Rock&** ***" he replied.
"Wha???" .
"ANd Rocking Ppl" he added.
I Happily agreed. Not sure if i really did, was it de music, de food, or de beer. But i Agreed and i stand by it :).
